Today, I want to offer a thought on prayer instead of a written prayer. Emilie Griffin offers a wonderful statement on the hand-in-hand relationship between reading Scripture or other spiritual writings and prayer. In her book Doors into Prayer, she says:

Spiritual reading is not the same as active study of a text. When we read as part of our prayer, we want God to draw us into a closer relationship. We are not striving to master the text, but to be led by it. Soon the line between reading and praying starts to disappear. We cross the boundary when we begin to speak to God or let God speak to us. Sometimes we hardly know when we have moved from reading to prayer. (21)

Father, may we today hear you when we read you and walk side-by-side with you in our heart, mind, soul and work.
