A Reflection for 9/11/11

No empire built by humans has lasted forever. God is not an American, but He weeps with those who grieve.

The only Kingdom that will ever last is the Kingdom of God.

We remember the loss of life from 9/11/01, but hopefully we also remember the day when we were exposed to how frail this kingdom we’ve built really is.

God, teach us to invest in your Kingdom and yours alone.

We weep for those who grieve.

We also weep for our misguided trust in fragile, temporary Kingdoms.

But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” (Hebrews 1:8-9, ESV)
