When There is Nothing to Say
When we sit and look and think and pray, balancing our tongue every so carefully in our mouth
poised and ready to light the world with each syllable
and then we are compelled to stop -
We realize that to fill the silence, crisp and gracious
would be an insult to silence, whisper, and calm
and so we refrain in reverence -
When there is nothing to say, may we not create something
but revel in the moment in which something,
anything from God may finally be heard above the din.
Embrace the silence. Words are a gift from God not given, nor received, lightly.
